In Nevada, there is a strong need for early childhood education for both children and families. Family to Family Connection offers early education at its best.

“Having children start school ready to learn is the most efficient way to close the achievement gap,” said Dianne Farkas, executive director of Family to Family Connection, a nonprofit that serves children from birth to age five. For more than 20 years, the organization has been empowering and supporting families by providing a safe and nurturing environment for their children through parent education and community networking.

“Some kids are in preschool but a lot of kids aren’t,” she said. “The kids who aren’t in preschool have an opportunity to come with a parent or caretaker and prepare for kindergarten while parents learn about a lot of things that help them be the best parents that they can be and also connect with other people.”

Family to Family Connection offers structured playgroups, pre-kindergarten readiness and development activities every Monday through Thursday. Parents and children also partake in dancing, music, arts & crafts and storytime with the staff. All classes are free but you must register in advance to attend and take advantage of early education at its best.

“There’s always something new going on,” Farkas said. Once a month, pediatric residents from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine come to the center to discuss a variety of topics such as nutrition, breastfeeding and hygiene followed by a Q&A session for parents. Family to Family Connection also has several community partners who teach classes.  Regularly scheduled field trips helps participants learn more about what the community has to offer families.
