Simple Beauty for the Holidays

Written by: Angelica Bongiorno

It’s Holiday season! The season for glamour, glitz and gold. Here are tips for a timeless classic beauty look that can take you from the office, the grocery store or a Holiday party by simply adding a little more shimmer and a little more red. Whether you have major events coming up or if you plan to enjoy it in a more laid back sort of way, my wish is that these simple beauty tips will enhance your Holiday Season.

Nothing Screams Holiday Like a Red Lip

It defines the season just as it defines your lip. The color red can be intimidating for some of us, but I promise there is the perfect shade of red for you out there in “makeup-land.” Holiday time is the best time to experiment with it. Go for a long-wearing matter formula. And make sure to not only line your lip with a red lip liner, but also color your lip in with the liner. This will add even more staying power to your lipstick.

When using a matte lipstick, especially in the cooler months, it’s important to take steps for extra lip hydration. Be sure to use a hydrating lip balm or oil after you remove your lipstick for the day. Add a light coat of Vaseline on top to lock in the moisture overnight. For extra smoothness, try a lip scrub once a week and follow it with a lip mask.

Red Lips

When wearing reds I like to start with a flawless canvas. This is the time of year I put my tinted moisturizers and bring out the big guns. A nice full-coverage yet light-weight foundation will make your color pop. I’ve tried many, but I continue to go back to Estee Lauder’s Double Wear. Balance out the red lip with a vibrant blush color on the apples of your cheeks.

Just like a matte lipstick, when wearing a fuller coverage foundation it is more important than ever to ensure your skin is hydrated. What do you think of when you think of a humidifier? I know I think of a sick child but I’m telling you, using one in your bedroom while you sleep is a game changer. Make sure to drink water, exercise, avoid hot showers and wear an SPF. Exfoliation continues to be key as it allows any moisturizer or serum to be more easily absorbed into the skin, making it more effective.

Gold Captures the Magic of the Season

Start with a primer and add a gold shadow to the lid with as much shimmer as you are comfortable. Use a brown shadow in the crease and outer corner to blend it out.

A cat eye is ideal for the iconic Holiday look. Grab a credit card and hold it up against your bottom lash line– the straight edge will help guide you when drawing the picture-perfect wings. If you are not up for the winged eyeliner challenge, achieve the sexy, lifted look by placing few individual cluster of lashes on the outer corners of your eyes. Need to transform your look from office to party? Line the inside water line of your eyes with a black pencil. For extra smolder, smudge it along the lash line too.

Gold Eye

We all want our holiday hair and nail game to be on point. Sparkling accessories will keep the effort simple. A headband, barrette or other hair embellishment will enhance the holiday vibe.

For nails, try glamming up the basic. Start with a nude mani and add a few square crystals or metallic studs to one or two accent nails. When in doubt you can never go wrong with the classic red.
